HERFIO GUIDE
Where to shop premium cigars in San Francisco.
The city’s best cigar selection is concentrated in a few rooms. Some win on breadth, some on boutiques, and one goes completely off-script with vintage pre-embargo Cubans.
THE SHORT VERSION
Occidental has the strongest named-brand depth we have found in the city. California Tobacco Center looks deeper than its public brand list can show, Dean’s brings the boutique angle, and The Humidor covers recognizable premium names downtown. Vendetta belongs for a totally different reason: you are not going there for the biggest wall of modern cigars—you are going there for something weird and rare.
Occidental Cigar Club
Financial District
No other active SF lounge gives us the same combination of cigar depth, humidor and sit-down smoking.
The most complete cigar-first stop in the city: indoor smoking, a humidor, a full bar and a deep brand mix in the Financial District. If you only have time for one San Francisco lounge, this is the obvious place to understand the scene.
Worth knowing: Live stock can still rotate.

Polk Gulch
The public brand list understates this place; the shop itself is built around a much broader premium assortment.
One of the city’s deeper cigar shops, with a walk-in humidor and a broad premium selection on Polk. If you want time to browse instead of grabbing whatever is behind the counter, start here.
Worth knowing: The humidor is deeper than the exact brand list we can show online.

Union Square
Boutique-leaning, premium and small enough that the shop still feels curated.
A proper Union Square cigar shop with a walk-in humidor, premium selection and a boutique streak. This is one of the better downtown stops when you actually want to browse.
Worth knowing: Some brand sightings are reported rather than fresh first-party inventory.

Financial District
A compact Financial District option with real premium names rather than generic “premium cigar” marketing.
A small but serious cigar shop inside Embarcadero Center, with a humidor and recognizable premium names. A convenient Financial District stop when you want quality without leaving downtown.
Worth knowing: It closes earlier than many neighborhood smoke shops.

Lower Nob Hill
The shop’s premium and boutique focus earns it a spot even though the exact brand list stays mostly offline.
A Lower Nob Hill cigar shop with a real humidor and a premium, boutique-leaning selection. The shop feels more cigar-focused than the average neighborhood smoke store.
Worth knowing: Most of the exact brand mix stays offline.

Nob Hill
Not broad, but genuinely rare—this is the specialty stop for vintage and pre-embargo Cuban cigars.
One of the strangest and most interesting cigar stops in the city: a menswear shop inside the Fairmont that also deals in rare vintage, pre-embargo Cuban cigars. There is even a small smoking room.
Worth knowing: Come for rarity, not the broadest modern-brand wall in town.
See the full place profileHow we made this list: We looked for real signs of depth: premium and boutique positioning, named brands, specialty inventory and humidor quality. A store saying “premium cigars” by itself is not enough.
Editorial picks are separate from paid placement. Policies, hours, and cigar inventory can change, so the individual place pages show the underlying research and verification details.
