HERFIO GUIDE
The best cigar lounges in San Francisco.
The lounge scene here is small, scattered and a little idiosyncratic—which is part of the fun. You have a proper downtown cigar club, a cigar bar with food, a Union Square lounge and a couple of private-club rooms.
THE SHORT VERSION
Occidental is the center of gravity: indoor smoking, a bar, a humidor and enough cigar depth to make it an actual cigar destination. Cigar Bar & Grill is better when food and a night out matter, while Sam’s is the Union Square option. Amador Club and City Club are worth knowing, but both come with the obvious catch—they are private clubs.
Occidental Cigar Club
Financial District
The full package: indoor smoking, bar, humidor and the deepest named-brand selection we found in San Francisco.
The most complete cigar-first stop in the city: indoor smoking, a humidor, a full bar and a deep brand mix in the Financial District. If you only have time for one San Francisco lounge, this is the obvious place to understand the scene.
Worth knowing: Later hours vary by day.

Jackson Square
Come here when the cigar is part of a whole night out: food, drinks and outdoor smoking in Jackson Square.
One of the few places in the city built around making a night of it: food, drinks and a cigar-friendly outdoor setup in Jackson Square. Better for sitting down than simply buying a stick and leaving.
Worth knowing: The cigar-friendly setup is outdoors rather than a classic indoor lounge.

Union Square
A Union Square lounge with the pieces you actually want together: humidor, drinks, food and somewhere to sit.
A Union Square cigar lounge with a walk-in humidor, drinks and food in the middle of one of the city’s busiest visitor districts. More sit-down lounge than simple retail counter.
Worth knowing: The online brand list is thinner than the physical humidor experience.

Financial District
A handsome private-club cigar room downtown for members and guests who want indoor smoking.
A private Financial District club with a ventilated indoor cigar lounge. This is a members-club kind of smoke, not a walk-in cigar shop.
Worth knowing: Private-club access is the catch.

Financial District
Another proper private-club smoking room in the Financial District, with the access caveat that comes with it.
A private Financial District club with its own ventilated cigar lounge. Think members-club smoking room, not public cigar bar.
Worth knowing: This is a private club, not a casual walk-in lounge.
See the full place profileHow we made this list: We looked for places where smoking a cigar is the point of the visit, then weighed access, seating, humidor depth, drinks, food and whether you can realistically walk in. Private clubs stay on the list, but they do not get to hide the access rules.
Editorial picks are separate from paid placement. Policies, hours, and cigar inventory can change, so the individual place pages show the underlying research and verification details.
