HERFIO GUIDE
Where to smoke a cigar outside in San Diego.
San Diego is a city that spends a lot of time outside, but cigar-friendly patios are not automatic. The useful options are scattered between downtown, Old Town, Kearny Mesa and Little Italy.
THE SHORT VERSION
The current list is short enough to be genuinely useful. Cesar’s gives you the Gaslamp full-bar version, Churchill is built around an Old Town patio, Liberty pairs outdoor smoking with serious cigar retail, and Tabac+ is the food-first Little Italy option.
Cesar's Cigar and Spirits Lounge
Gaslamp Quarter
The Gaslamp’s strongest all-in-one outdoor option: a wraparound patio, full bar, walk-in humidor and indoor backup when you do not want the whole night riding on the weather.
Gaslamp cigar bar built for a full night out: indoor and outdoor smoking, a walk-in humidor, premium cigars and a full bar with a strong whiskey and Scotch focus.
Worth knowing: The nightlife setting is part of the deal; this is not the quietest cigar stop in the city.

Old Town
Old Town patio with beer, wine and a deep cigar list, built for sitting outside with a cigar rather than treating the patio as an afterthought.
Old Town lounge with an outdoor patio, beer and wine, plus one of San Diego’s deeper cigar selections. A good fit when you want to sit down rather than just shop and leave.
Worth knowing: Our strongest confirmed smoking signal here is outdoors.

Kearny Mesa
Kearny Mesa tobacconist with confirmed outdoor smoking plus a walk-in humidor and premium retail selection.
Kearny Mesa tobacconist with indoor and outdoor smoking, a walk-in humidor and one of the stronger premium-brand selections in the city.
Worth knowing: This is cigar-shop first, not a full-bar patio experience.

Little Italy
Little Italy restaurant with a confirmed outdoor cigar-smoking setup, useful when food matters as much as the cigar itself.
Little Italy restaurant with an outdoor cigar-smoking setup. Come for food and a cigar-friendly patio rather than cigar shopping; cigars are not sold onsite.
Worth knowing: Cigars are not sold onsite, so plan your cigar separately.
See the full place profileHow we made this list: Every selection requires an explicit outdoor-smoking signal in Herfio data. We keep cigar retail separate from cigar-friendly hospitality, so a venue can qualify even when it does not sell cigars. Paid placement does not determine inclusion or ranking.
Editorial picks are separate from paid placement. Policies, hours, and cigar inventory can change, so the individual place pages show the underlying research and verification details.
